WHAT WE DON'T KNOW CAN HURT US AND THE ENVIRONMENT

This draft report to US Congress, produced by the Center for Environmental Quality (CEQ) is full of things we don't know and aren't doing adequetly. Read for yourself; it's not good news but at least in knowing what we need to be changed, we have a better chance of improving.

Read it for yourself here.

Study connects Manganese in well water to lower IQ in children

A recent study conducted by Canadian researchers provides striking evidence that children exposed to high concentration of Manganese in tap water tested lower in standard IQ tests.
"We found significant deficits in the intelligence quotient (IQ) of children exposed to higher concentrations of manganese in drinking water," lead author Maryse Bouchard said in a news release. "Yet manganese concentrations were well below current guidelines."
The results of the study are published in the scientific journal Environmental Health Perspectives.

Manganese, is a free element in nature that seeps into water sources. As a free element, manganese is a metal which finds its way into ground water sources through natural seepage.

The Canadian study focused on drinking water as the source of exposure for the 350 plus 362 children  that were examined in this research project. It seems to me that an even greater impact may come from exposure when showering. A study performed in 2005 suggested a link between manganese inhalation and nervous system toxicity. It was hypothesized that long term exposure to naturally occurring manganese in shower water put as many as 8.7 million Americans at risk. Manganism, a disease similar to Parkinson Disease, has been linked to exposure to manganese.

Manganese is very common in ground water sources throughout the US and Canada. I strongly recommend annual testing if you rely on well or spring water for your home. Don't take for granted the water is safe that just because looks clean. If tests show manganese is present, get a filter that will reduce or remove it.

Stealth Toilet by Niagara Conservation getting noticed & making waves.

The stealth toilet continues to gain recognition from both consumers & trusted industry sources and for good reason. This toilet will do a lot for residential water conservation efforts and to improved the damaged reputation of the "water efficient toilet". From the same inventive minds that created the now very popular "flapperless" toilets. The business partnership between Hennessy & Hinchliffe and Niagara Conservation is clearly one of great benefit for efforts to improve water resource management.

Here is a quote from a review posted by Alex Wilson, executive editor of Environmental Building News and founder of BuildingGreen, LLC:
"The vacuum-assist flush mechanism helps the toilet effectively flush a significant quantity of waste using very little water. Using the now-industry-standard Maximum-Performance (MaP) testing protocol, the Stealth toilet is rated at 600 grams, in both the round-front and elongated-front models. This and other performance features have allowed the toilet to earn the EPA WaterSense label for high-efficiency toilets. According to Cecilia Hayward, the marketing manager at Niagara, the toilet also passes all IAPMO requirements for toilets, including a requirement that waste be effectively moved 40 feet along the drainline when the toilet is flushed."

Wine To Water: Now Thats My Kind Of Hero

If you know me, you know that the preservation of our natural fresh water resources is my passion and that I believe clean healthy water is a birth right for all living creatures on this planet. Today I came across a news story that touches my heart. Doc Hendley is a resident of Blowing Rock, NC with whom I share a passion, a dream and a hope. For me this story hits close to home in many ways; literally and figuratively.

Mr. Hendley is the creator of an organization called Wine to Water that provides clean water to people in developing countries through funds raised at wine tasting events. That’s right folks you can have your wine and save lives by doing so; brilliant! Wine to Water is a nonprofit dedicated to achieving sustainability through education and empowerment of local community members, training them to install, maintain and repair their own water systems. I will be reaching out to Mr. Hendley in support of his efforts and I hope you all will do the same.Check out this video from CNN News.

who controls the flow of water?

NY Times GreenInc, blog post

AquaPro posted reply:

I am concerned that we continue to witness advancements in the control of fresh water resources by for-profit corporate entities. I am of the opinion that this is not in the best we can do. As one of the three things we cannot survive without (Air, Water, Food) I am perplexed by our complacency with the idea that fresh water isn’t provided as a basic human right. For-profit ventures that contribute too or result in the control of fresh water supplies by for-profit entities is something we should be very worried about.

That's what I think, what do you think?

Water Is Life

Fresh Water is more valuable than gold. The control of Fresh Water is the basis for many conflicts, in many countries and brings big profits’ to Big Business. “Those who control the flow of water, control civilization”. It doesn’t take much research to discover the mechanisms through which Governments and World Corporations are positioning to control the flow of fresh water.

Every aspect of day to day human life on this planet is sustained in some way by the availability fresh water. Water is the second most important of the three necessities for survival of human life; Air, Water, Food. Everything else is non-essential. Connecting the dots in understanding this paradigm is easy. If you remove any one of these, human survival is impossible. It is by this understanding that these necessities should be provided as an undeniable right of every human being and declared as such in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
