For or against fluoridating drinking water; it looks like it’s here to stay.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the US Dept of Health and Human Services recommendation to reduce fluoride levels in drinking water is certain to bring controversy from both sides of the debate about its relevance and safety.

For almost 70 years municipalities have fluoridated water supplies as a means of minimizing or preventing tooth decay. The first city in the world to fluoridate public drinking water supplies was Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1945.

The EPA & HHS recommendation is sure to add fuel to the health benefits versus health risks debate that has raged for decades. Proponents claim fluoridation as one of the most important preventative health achievements of the century while opponents argue that it has serious health risks including cancer.

The EPA/HHS proposed recommendation is for a maximum of 0.7 milligrams of fluoride per liter of water replacing the current “range” standard of 0.7 and 1.2 milligrams per liter. Whether you are for or against fluoridation, it’s is here to stay; at least for now.

What do you think?

  1. There are company's out there that offer Water from Air technology also known as atmospheric water generators. These systems generate water that is 100% free of chlorine, fluoride, lead, recycled water, effluent and other toxic wastes. Most filtration systems remove all trace minerals from the water, thereby producing clean water. However there are systems that are specifically designed to retain the beneficial minerals that keep you healthy whilst removing impurities. So not only does an atmospheric water generator eliminate the need for plastic bottle the water generated with these dispensers costs in the neighborhood of 6 cents per gallon.

  2. Atmospheric water generators are certainly a very viable means of producer "clean" water. I have tested several models and worked with manufacturers to promote these products. As a general rule I prefer a whole house filtration system for fluoride (and other contaminants) removal. It is at least as important and I believe more important to get chemical contaminants out of the water you shower or bathe in a it is to remove them from drinking water. the exposure to and absorption of toxins is much higher in a shower than when drinking treated water.

  3. There are many large scientific studies to show that that drinking fluoridated water has no effect on cavity reduction and to show that it causes cancer and other health problems. The best source for scientific information on fluoridation can be found here: (
If fluoride were "proven," there should be evidence of its glory in the US state, Kentucky, which has been 100% fluoridated for over 40 years. Kentucky, however, leads the nation in the number of dental cavities in children, and in the number of completely toothless adults, according to government records. The same ineffectiveness is evident in many states and cities.

Most of Europe (16 countries) has rejected fluoridation and is 98% fluoride free. and the WHO reports that they have a better tooth decay rate than any fluoridated country.
If you want fluoride in your water, put it in your own glass of water; leave the rest of us out of it.
